Iran welcomes int’l cooperation to upgrade cyber defense level

Tehran, Oct 14, IRNA – Iran welcomes any moves to stop further expansion of cyber terrorism and upgrade level of cyber defense, an official said.

Secretary of the Supreme Council on Virtual Space Mehdi Akhavan Bahabadi said here on Sunday that Iran, as one of the biggest victims of cyber terrorism, condemns any moves to promote such attacks.

He said a number of cyber attacks have been launched against Iran’s sensitive places like nuclear sites and the Oil Ministry in the past few days.

He said that according to international organizations the attacks have failed.

The official further said that apart from Iran’s oil infrastructures, the Persian Gulf littoral states too were targeted by cyber terrorists.

According to him, the PG countries have said that over 30,000 of their servers have been attacked.

Bahabadi went on to voice Iran’s readiness to help these countries upgrade the level of their cyber security.

Noting that Iran is one of world’s strongest countries in terms of cyber technology, he said Tehran is investing even more to improve its cyber defense capabilities.

However, he said the US officials have only mentioned the Persian Gulf states in their remarks about cyber attacks on their oil companies and crossed out Iran from the list of the countries which fell victims to such attacks.
