Tehran to host arthroscopic surgery congress

Tehran, Aug 13, IRNA -- A congress on arthroscopic surgery congress will be held at Tehran's Akhtar Hospital from August 14 to 15.

Dr. Sohrab Kayhani, head of the congress, said 11 distinguished experts from Iran, Germany, South Korea and India will participate in the two-day event, which will be organized by Shahid Beheshti Medical University.

"Meniscus of the knee transplantation will be performed through arthroscopic surgery for the first time in Iran by a prominent Korean surgeon," he said.

He explained that anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, cartilage transplantation and fixation of dislocated shoulder and kneecap will also be performed in the event.

Arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure on a joint in which an examination and sometimes treatment of damage is performed using an arthroscope, an endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision.

Arthroscopic procedures can be performed to treat many orthopedic conditions, including torn cartilage, torn surface cartilage, ACL reconstruction and trimming damaged cartilage.

Compared to open surgery, arthroscopy is less painful and allows for a quicker recovery time.
