Iran backs legal procedure taken in Iraq premier election

Tehran, Aug 12, IRNA – Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said on Tuesday that Iran supports the legal procedure taken in the election of the Iraqi new prime minister.

Addressing the annual meeting with Iranian ambassadors, representatives and heads of Iranian missions abroad , he congratulated Heydar al-Ebadi, the religious leaders, Iraqi nation and political parties on his appointment as the countryˈs new premier.

Recalling the sensitive situation in the Arab states, Shamkhani called on all Iraqi groups to adhere to national unity so as to maintain national interests and counter foreign threats.

Appreciating the role of religious leaders as the main pillar of maintaining solidarity and unity in Iraq, the official reaffirmed Iranˈs support to united and safe Iraq.
