Third fatal swine flu case reported in Germany
|
Berlin, Oct 23, IRNA -- A 65-year-old man became the third swine flu death case in Germany within less than a month, media reports said Friday.
|
The unidentified victim who was carrying the deadly H1N1 virus, died at a university clinic in the southwestern city of Mannheim.
The man was also suffering from a number of other chronic illnesses.
On September 25, a 36-year-old woman succumbed to the deadly virus and earlier this month a five-year-old boy who had the H1N1 virus died because of lung infection.
Around 23,000 people have so far been registered to have the swine flu virus,
according to the Robert-Koch Health Institute.
The German government is expected to start a nationwide vaccination program on Monday.
The first group to be vaccinated will be people with chronic illnesses or immune disorders, pregnant women, obese people, health care workers and emergency services personnel.
Vaccination will be free of cost for everyone with private or public health insurance.
Depending upon how many people are vaccinated, the program will cost the government and private insurers between 600 million euros and one billion euros.
